It all started with Facebook.  Yea, Facebook.  YouTube wars was actually what it was.  Basically the idea of the game is to post random YouTube video links that you like and want others to see.  I started with some of my favorite videos like “Why Asian guys can’t get white girls” and the amazing baby cover of Hey Jude. Being an active participant in this “YouTube war”, I clicked and watched every YouTube video my friends placed in the message. Eventually I came across what would completely change my life for the better, the Wonder Girls – So Hot music video.

My jaw DROPPED. I had never seen such good looking Asians in my entire life! Living in a community in which the Asian population is very tiny, my high school only has 32 out of the 1600 person student population being Asian.  I did not know many Asians simply because it was hard to find any to befriend.  Seeing 5 gorgeous Asian girls my age caught my attention almost instantly.  So, impulsively, the next step I took was to look up more music videos on YouTube, I couldn’t get enough.  Immediately I found the Nobody video , and eventually after browsing through most of YouTube,  I had heard every song this fascinating new group, the Wonder Girls, had ever performed, both live and through music videos.

Now the first thing you are probably thinking of is, “are you telling me this Asian kid likes the Wonder Girls simply because they are so hot?” No. But that’s one of the reasons . Instantly after becoming a Wonder Girls fanatic, I started looking all over the web for Wonder Girls related stuff, ranging from websites, to forums, all the way to purchasing merchandise off Ebay or Amazon. I managed to find several blogs that actively gave updates on the Wonder Girls, so I started watching those. However, I realized I still knew nothing about the Wonder Girls themselves, not even their names, or their past. It wasn’t until I found a certain profile page on another WordPress blog that I truly fell in love with the Wonder Girls. I found out that they had gone through a lot more than they look. Having gone through rough times ranging from the withdrawal of one of their members to crash accidents injuring one of the girls to the point of not being able to perform live, the Wonder Girls that I see 24/7 are always showing their happy and cheerful side. With their rough past, they are still able to perform strong, and live with joy rather than discouragement.  My respect for this group skyrocketed.

SunYe, the girl who can be considered the leader, she tries her hardest to make sure the Wonder Girls get as much success as their potential will take them. With her powerful leadership abilities and the perseverance of the rest of the group, SunYe was able to help pull the Wonder Girls through their dilemma into success.

YeEun, the girl who never stops caring for her fans, and remembers them on a personal level, by doing more than just saying Hi or smiling. I mean seriously, how many artists actually take the time to respond to their fans?

SunMi, one of the two youngest members of the group, still going through school at the same age I am, yet able to stay strong and be a spectacular Wonder Girl with her 4D cuteness.

SoHee, the youngest of the group, although others may say stuff about her performances, she still holds strong, even with school, practice, and the tensions of everyday life.

Yoobin, replacement of a previous member, Hyuna, and widely not accepted at first, but eventually with her sexy voice and personality was able to win the hearts of all Wonderfuls.

Now you might be asking, “What is it that makes this group, the Wonder Girls, so different from any other band or group, to the point that this kid would listen to their music on shuffle everyday when he has a chance, even during school?” Any fan could simply state, “I love their music”, but what makes a Wonderful different from any other fan is that we not only love their music, but also appreciate the music, the work put behind it, and who it is performed by. Songs sung in cliche in America by bands are just another song to be heard. Although some songs of the Wonder Girls may have cliche lyrics, there is always a deeper meaning behind it, not just the denotations of the lyrics themselves.

So what sets them apart from other artists? Why don’t I just listen to other bands and go “gaga” over them? Think about it, what other artist in world is as dedicated to their fans as the Wonder Girls? I would have to stay none. The effort that the girls go through to show their appreciation for their fans (Wonderfuls) is so great that it makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy. What other band has their own blog that they update as much as possible, or their own Twitter pages to let us know how they are? The Wonder Girls have shown more than just simple dedication to their fans, and that is what keeps a Wonderful staying a Wonderful.

Last but not least, their music is amazing. Each song has its own addicting beat, and most of them have their own well choreographed dance. After succumbing to their viral dance moves, I had no choice but to stand up and learn it myself too xD. I went so far as to even join a dance contest in hope of getting a chance to meet the Wonder Girls backstage. That’s how big of a fan the Wonder Girls can quickly convert you.

Oh, by the way, did you know the Wonder Girls also sing ballads? The true feeling behind their singing can be seen when they perform their slow songs.  Some of my favorite songs are ballads, especially Wishing on a Star, it’s hard to not cry when you hear these girls express their emotions through song.
